What size bleed does a DL flyer need?
A standard DL flyer is printed with a 99 × 210 mm trim size and needs a 3 mm bleed on every edge, which makes the artwork board 105 × 216 mm and keeps important text and logos inside a 93 × 204 mm safe area.

- The bleed box adds the 3 mm bleed to every edge of the trim, so 99 + 3 + 3 = 105 mm wide and 210 + 3 + 3 = 216 mm tall, giving a 105 × 216 mm bleed box.
- The safe area pulls the same 3 mm in from every edge of the trim, so 99 − 3 − 3 = 93 mm wide and 210 − 3 − 3 = 204 mm tall, giving a 93 × 204 mm safe area.
- The page adds room for crop marks on top of the bleed, so 99 + 6 + 6 = 111 mm wide and 210 + 6 + 6 = 222 mm tall, giving a 111 × 222 mm page.
- Bleed is only added once per edge, so the 3 mm bleed setting adds 6 mm to the total width and 6 mm to the total height, not 3 mm.
The most common mistake is building the artwork at exactly 99 × 210 mm with no bleed at all, so any background colour or image stops right at the trim line and a sliver of white paper shows up along one or two edges after the flyer is cut.
DL is sized to fit a standard DL envelope without folding, which is why it is a third of an A4 sheet rather than a member of the A series.
The 3 mm bleed is added to the long edges as well as the short ones, so the artwork board is wider than the finished 99 × 210 mm piece in both directions.
Guides are placed in a PDF optional-content layer flagged not to print, so they stay visible on screen but are omitted when the file is printed.
